Another Canvas with Scarlett!

Happy Thursday!  Scarlett here again to deliver another canvas project for you to peep out.  This was actually the first project I created upon getting my amazing goodie package from Crop Stop but since it was a doozie I decided to make you all wait just a bit.

The canvas I worked on was an 11x 14 stretched canvas and it started out with the first layer looking like this:

  My apologies for the slight blurriness of the photo, but because I used some glossy gel medium it can be rather tough to shoot clearly.  On this first layer I used some tissue paper then stamped over it using the Claudine Hellmuth Jumbo Bloom Stamp Set . I cannot tell you how much I adore these stamps!! The way they stamp with paint is absolutely lovely and I really liked that I was able to stamp over the texture of the tissue paper and still get a good image.  

The second layer involved layering in some tape pieces at the bottom and randomly stamping over the entire piece with a tiny background stamp.  On my background stamp I used some Claudine Hellmuth Purple Palette semi-gloss acrylic and mixed it with a little bit of gesso to tone down the color a bit. I also spread some Gold Mica Flakes all over the canvas.  These really add a nice touch of texture and sparkle plus they dry fairly quickly - bonus!  Once all of that work was completed I grabbed my chevron Crafter's Workshop stencil, spread some paste over it let it dry and then sprayed it with Dyan Reavely Dylusion mists - Fresh Lime, Lemon Zest, Pure Sunshine and Vibrant Turquoise.  I also used some Color Shine mists to give the canvas additional shimmer.

Please note the stencil I used is currently not available in the store but the Crafters Workshop - Chunky Chevron (6x6) would be a good alternative and is available in the store.  I own this one too and love it just as much.  

Here I began building up a little scene.  This canvas was for my niece.  She was so sweet and had put a little bug in my sister in law's ear that she would love a canvas from me for her Christmas present.  So of course I was more than obliging.  I must say I about freaked my beak when I saw this house stencil by the Crafters Workshop. I had never seen it before and couldn't wait to use it!  I grabbed some wood grain patterned paper, light modeling paste, and used a palette knife to spread it over the stencil.  Voila! Cutie houses made.  All I had to do was cut them out and then I lightly colored them with some Pan Pastels. You'll see that in a later picture.

I embossed the patterned paper clouds for the canvas using the Couture Creations Limited Edition Serenity Collection-Damask Embossing Folder.  I used a gesso wash over each piece to tone down the pattern and pop the embossing.  Really love this technique and will be definitely be using it more often.

In this shot you can see the clouds are placed and outlined, I added a sun (this is a hand carved stamp I made done on sticky back canvas), and a Scrap FX chipboard hot air balloon. I edged up the canvas with some of my new favorite glitter - Ranger's Dry Fine Glitter-Thistle.  I also used heaps of this on the letters used to spell out my niece's name.  This is seriously a little tub of glitter that will go a long, long way.  Love.

I'm thrilled with the outcome but better yet my niece adored it!!  From what I hear it was hung up as soon as she could get her dad to help her with it which was pretty quick because she was persistent...teehee.  Warms my heart.  When I was there a couple weeks ago she took me right upstairs to show me and then promptly said we should go to town painting her walls.  She is definitely related to me and my little kindred artsy spirit.  Love her to bits and really hope you loved taking a peek in to the creative process behind this canvas.
